A Brief History
ASM Performing Arts was created by professional actors, in 1997,
to offer practical workshops on character creation, scene study,
audition technique, acting for the camera, voice & movement,
dramatic writing and basic film making.
The instructors at ASM Performing Arts are working actors.
They have years of experience working in film, television, and theatre,
which makes them an excellent resource for our students.
They will evaluate your work in an honest, positive, constructive fashion
and give you the advice you need to sharpen your natural abilities.

Our Mission Statement
We believe that a great acting program should prepare you for a career in the business.
That means teaching you the techniques necessary to excel in performance,
and providing you with the tools not only to GET the job, but to DO the work with an excellence
that will ensure you a place in the industry as a notable actor.
It means providing a safe arena for you to conduct your studies in,
where your work can be constructively analysed and fine-tuned for the real world.
It means helping you design your own curriculum and getting you up on stage,
in studio productions, and films, where you can apply your new skills, strut your stuff, and have some fun.

Biographies
CHIP CHUIPKA
Chip studied performance, directing, and design, under the guidance of long time Peter Brook collaborator, Henry Woolf, at the University of Saskatchewan.
Soon after, Mr Chuipka co-founded three theatre companies: Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan and The Saskatoon Soaps.
He also co-founded and produced The Ottawa Shakespeare Festival for three seasons.
Chip has been teaching the craft of acting for nearly three decades. He was nominated three times for the Canadian Screen Actors' Award
and is a recipient of the Mask Award, two MECCA Awards for best actor, and a META award for best supporting actor
Chip has appeared in numerous stage productions, coast to coast, including :

STEFANIE BUXTON
Stefanie Buxton is a professional actress based in Montreal. She is a graduate of Concordia University's Specialization in Theatre Performance and she works in theatre, film, television and voice. Previous stage credits include "The Madonna Painter" (Centaur), "Rock, Paper, Jackknife..." (Talisman/Centaur), "Le Code Noir" (Black Theatre Workshop), "Down The Main Drag" (Summerworks/ Hatch), and "girls!girls!girls!" (Festival Theatre des Ameriques). Previous film and television credits include "Fries With That?", "Tales From The Neverending Story", "Sophie", "Wicker Park"; and Stefanie also plays the role of Sandra in the animated series "My Life Me". She has been an instructor at ASM Performing Arts for three years, specializing in Behaviour 1, Scene/Camera and the Production class.

JOEL MILLER
Joel Miller has been a professional actor, director and dramaturge for almost fifty years. He was
Artistic Director of the English Acting Section of The National Theatre School of Canada (1977–1985)
and Assistant Artistic Director of Theatre Calgary (1968–1971).
For Centaur Theatre, he has directed productions of David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross, That
Championship Season, Death of a Salesman, and After Magritte, as well as productions of
Vittorio Rossi’s plays The Chain, Scarpone, Love and Other Games, The Last Adam and most recently
Paradise by the River.
Other directing credits include The Mandrake by Jean–Pierre Ronfard for P.O.V.; The Vipers’ Brood by
Joel Miller, Women Beware Women by Thos. Middleton, Don Juan Comes Back From the War and Faith,
Hope and Charity, by Ödön von Horváth, Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind and Molière’s Tartuffe
at Concordia University.
As an actor, he has taken principle and leading roles in Have a Heart by David Sherman for Centaur
Theatre, Seeds by Annabel Soutar for Projet Porte–Parole, Reading Hebron by Jason Sherman for Teesri
Dunyia Theatre; The Crucible by Arthur Miller for Centaur Theatre; The Price by Arthur Miller and
Hedda Gabler by Ibsen for the Segal Centre. His film and television roles include principle roles in April
Morning, Day One, The Case of the Whitechapel Vampire, and Varian’s War; a major role in the
mini–series Les Bâtisseurs d’eau for Radio–Canada and was in the final season of 2 Frères. For seven
years he performed a principal role in the popular téléroman Les Poupées Russes and was featured in the
film Everywhere, co–starring with Patrick McKenna and Julie Breton.

TAMARA BROWN A graduate of Concordia's Theatre Performance
program, Tamara Brown is a stage and screen actor, singer, director, writer, and
educator.
Her favourite credits include Snapshot (Imago Theatre),
Humans, and Lion in the Streets, (Tableau D'Hote Theatre), Blacks Don't
Bowl, Afrika Solo,
Nutmeg Princess, New Canadian Kid (BTW), Inherit the
Wind (Segal Centre), and most recently Intimate Apparel, and Urban Tales (Centaur
Theatre).
You can look for her in the new Scifi series, Helix as Dr.
Sulemani. Directing credits include productions for Black Theatre Workshop, Sheep In Fog, and
MaryBeth Productions.
Tamara
has had the incredible fortune to perform with artists such as Buena
Vista Social Club, Bebel Gilberto, Ranee Lee, Paul Anka, Mario Pelchat,
Dubmatique, Corneille, Sylvie Desgroseillers and many others, and has
toured with her own bands across Canada, the US, and Asia.
In
2010 Tamara co-founded Metachroma Theatre, the only independent
English-language company of professional actors of colour in Montreal,
whose inaugural production of Richard III in 2013 opened to critical
acclaim. Metachroma Theatre addresses the under-representation of
visible minority actors in Canadian Theatre, challenging current
perceptions by telling stories with a diverse cast in order to normalize
the presence of these artists on stage.

MIKE HUGHES
Performer, Teacher & creator; Mike
Hughes has taught acting & improvisation throughout Canada, Europe
& The United States.
He is a performer - creator in the Montreal theatre troupe Uncalled For, & his acting credits include roles for: Geordie Theatre,
the Montreal Young Company, Gravy Bath, the Segal Centre & Tableau D'Hote Theatre.
Currently he performs the role of Alberti in Cirque du Soleil's Draillon.

AMANDA KELLOCK
is an actor, director, writer and teacher with a BFA in Theatre and Development from Concordia University and an MFA in Directing from the University of Ottawa. She was the Directing Intern at the National Arts Centre for their 2007/2008 season, and has since directed projects for Geordie Productions, Repercussion Theatre, the Montreal Baroque Festival and the Centaur Theatre. Amanda has also performed with all of those companies, as well as at Theatre Lac Brome in Knowlton and with Third Wall Theatre in Ottawa. She often teaches Introduction to Performance and Drama in Education at McGill University, acting classes for the Geordie Theatre School, and has led drama workshops at various places such as the Lester B. Pearson School board, the Dorval Community Centre, and The University of Pinar Del Rio in Cuba.

SHAWN BAICHOO
Shawn has been acting professionally for almost fourteen years now, in film, television, theater, voice and performance capture. He studied Stage Fighting at Dawson as part of the Professional Theater Program, and was certified as an Actor/Combatant – Gold Level with Fight Director’s Canada. He also has a black belt in Shotokan karate, and is constantly studying new forms and techniques to integrate into his Stage Combat skills.
